Ever craving some crispy and delicious chips? Try this homemade version and you will enjoy this healthier alternative to frozen or deep fried fries/chips. You don’t have to give up all your cravings just because you want to eat healthy. You can get both healthy and delicious, often the key factor is going homemade and try not to make anything deep fried, also choosing better oils, you don’t have to go completely fat free.

Potatoes have always been one of my favorite foods and I have made this recipe for years, I just put the ingredients all together without measuring and sometimes they came out with too little salt sometimes with to much, also because I used different amounts of potatoes. So I finally started measuring the ingredients to get the seasoning and amount of oil just right. So here it is, my potato wedges recipe, you wouldn’t want to go back to those greasy unhealthy frozen fries or wedges and whatever flavourings and other weird ingredients they put in them. By cooking homemade meals you have the full control over what ingredients you use and get all the health benefits of fresh foods. This recipe is as easy as it gets, no preboiling the potatoes, simply scrub, chop, season and bake them for about an hour. No peeling needed, that’s why we’re making wedges and not fries/chips and you will get the benefits of the rich nutrients directly beneath the potato’s skin. The only thing that takes long is the cooking time, but in the meantime I’m sure you will find something else to cook to accompany the wedges.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg (2.2 lb) potatoes
  • 1 tsp salt_
  • ¼ tsp black pepper_
  • 2 tsp paprika_
  • 4 tbsp oil_ e.g. olive

Instructions

  • Scrub the potatoes, don’t peel them.
  • Cut the potatoes into halves, then into about 1.5cm wedges.
  • Put the wedges on a baking tray, add the spices and the oil on top and mix well with your hands.
  • Spread them out evenly on the baking tray, they should lie side by side, not on top of each other.
  • Bake in the oven at 220°C for about 40 to 50 minutes, but check frequently, open the oven once or twice to let out steam. As all ovens are different, the baking time might vary.

Notes

Time might vary due to different ovens, so keep an eye on them and take them out when they are nice and crispy. They should just fit side by side on one baking tray, if not try to squeeze them more together or just use a second baking tray.
